Colour
Consistency for tanning ostrich leather.
One
of the important critical points of leather tanning is controlling
colour consistency. The shoe, clothing and fashion industry is dependent
on receiving consistent coloured leather to manufacture items through
out the season.
The tanning of the leather is as much as a skill as it is an art.
The influence of the epidermis, corium and adipose tissue can have
influence on dying. Especially in the case of ostrich leather, the
quill needs to be considered. It is essential that the tanner understands
the dynamics of each hide in order to keep the consistency between
dying batches.
The
graphic below shows how easy ostrich crust can react differently
to the same dying chemical recipe.
